What up, dawgs! Sorry for the delay, but we still needed to iron out all of the details. Our Last MeetingAt our last meeting, we discussed Hidden Girl, selected by Lila. I thought it was an excellent and inspiring book. I hope y'all had fun at the Haunted Trail! Our Next MeetingOur next meeting will be on Saturday, November 12th, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Cailen's house. This time, I can't change the date if you can't make it! We'll be discussing Murder, She Wrote: A Slaying in Savannah by Jessica Fletcher and Donald Bain. Jessica is saddened when her eccentric old friend Tillie Mortelaine passes away—and surprised to learn that Tillie has left her a million dollars. But there are strings attached. Jessica must use the money to help the literacy fund she and Tillie established years ago in Savannah, Georgia. And she will receive the money only if she can solve a mystery within the month: the murder of Tillie’s fiancé, Wanamaker Jones. There's Good News, and There's Bad News.I'll start on the bad news so we can end on a high note. Unfortunately, two of our members have resigned from the club. Christina and Veronica have conflicts that get in the way of meetings. I'll encourage them to attend meetings when they can. Let's take a moment of silence to honor our former members.
Now we're done. If you haven't already heard, I made a book club app!!! To be honest, it's not that exciting, but it does make it super easy for you to access the website, my contact information, and a forum where I'll post updates right from your homescreen. To download on an Apple device, click here. To download on an Android device, click here. Don't forget to trust the app developer - don't worry, it's completely safe to use - and create your profile on the forum so you can view updates. If these links don't work, tell me and I'll look for another solution. That's all, folks! ~ Prez Grace

Our meeting to discuss Hidden Girl has been postponed to October 15th due to some confusion. The time and location will remain the same. Sorry for the inconvenience. We hope to see you there!
Hello there, Bookworms! Here I am, your no-longer-crippled president, with your meeting minutes! And the crowd goes wild... Our Last MeetingYay! Our first meeting of the school year was a success. Or at least, I thought so. We discussed The Running Dream, selected by Julia, and had a fabulous photoshoot. Our Next MeetingFor our next meeting, we'll be reading Hidden Girl by Shyima Hall. The meeting will be hosted by Lila, and we will meet at her house on Saturday, October 8th, from 3:00 to 5:00. I hope y'all appreciate the extended time so we have more opportunities for FUN! Here's the summary:
Shyima Hall was born in Egypt on September 29, 1989, the seventh child of desperately poor parents. When she was eight, her parents sold her into slavery. Shyima then moved two hours away to Egypt’s capitol city of Cairo to live with a wealthy family and serve them eighteen hours a day, seven days a week. When she was ten, her captors moved to Orange County, California, and smuggled Shyima with them. Two years later, an anonymous call from a neighbor brought about the end of Shyima’s servitude—but her journey to true freedom was far from over. A volunteer at her local police department since she was a teenager, Shyima is passionate about helping to rescue others who are in bondage. Now a US citizen, she regularly speaks out about human trafficking and intends to one day become an immigration officer. In HIDDEN GIRL, Shyima candidly reveals how she overcame her harrowing circumstances and brings vital awareness to a timely and relevant topic. Hope to see you there! ~ Prez Grace Hello, Bookworms!
I've finally determined the date for our first meeting of the school year!!! YAY!!! We'll be meeting Saturday, September 24th, from 3:30 to 5:00. The meeting will be at Julia's house. The book she's assigned is The Running Dream by Wendelin Van Draanen (which is quite fabulous, if I do say so myself). Sixteen-year-old Jessica lives to run but when a tragic accident results in her leg being amputated below the knee, her running dreams are shattered. During her recovery she gets to know Rosa—-a girl with cerebral palsy whom she had previously ignored. Rosa helps Jessica believe in a future with unexpected opportunities. With the support of her coach, friends, family and community, Jessica starts to wonder if it is possible not only to walk again, but to run. I hope to see you all at our next meeting. Enjoy the book! ~ Prez Grace Hello Bookworms!
I hope you're all having fabulous summers so far. As you (hopefully) know, school is fast approaching. I know, I know, I don't want summer to end, either. But it's time to face the truth. Luckily, school starting means book club starting again! YAY! Because we'll be beginning again soon, I need to know the best times to schedule meetings. I'm hoping to continue at the host's house. For Julia and Lila's hosting, this means we can hold after-school meetings. Otherwise, the weekend is probably the best idea. Please respond to this email by telling me when you are available. Thanks! Enjoy the rest of your summer, and see you soon! Hi everyone! I hope you had a good time at our (sniff) final meeting of the year! I wrote an email about it and sent it to...your parents! I'm nervous. Sort of. Summer Meetings?Although a few of you missed the discussion, having left early, we talked a little about meeting during the summer and came to a consensus. Like last year, we won't meet over the summer. However, I will do my best to contact you as soon as the date of our next meeting is decided. This will likely be within a week of the beginning of school. If you'd prefer to start in the end of August, please tell me. Reforming Our Host SystemIn addition to our next meeting, I've also been thinking about our hosting system. For parents that don't know, we select a host to pick a book and hold the next meeting at each meeting. There's always been a lot of confusion involving who will go next. So, I've decided to, beginning at our next meeting, pick hosts in alphabetical order by last name. This works out well, since Julia was interested in going next and has hosted only once. The order will be:
Julia Lila Cailen Lily Veronica Christina Katy I know this means that a few of you will be waiting a long time to host, but I'm hoping we can be good sports about it. Of course, if you object to this, please don't hesitate to tell me. Thanks for a great year, everyone! I'm looking forward to our next meeting. ~ Prez Grace I understand that a number of you didn't attend this meeting, whether it was because you had a conflict or didn't know. Our numbers were few, but we had a lot of fun at our last meeting! Our Next MeetingOur next meeting is on Saturday, June 4th, from 3:00 to 4:30 at my house. Cailen will be hosting. Be sure to read The Time Travelers by Linda Buckley-Archer! Important News! For those of you on Google+, Bodacious Bookworms has a new community! I've invited everyone with a Gmail account to join. Gettin' In Touch, ManDon't forget, I always inform you in a number of ways about our next meeting. Hi Bookworms! Although I wasn't able to attend, I hope you all had a fantastic time discussing Escape From Mr. Lemoncello's Library at Veronica's house. Our Next MeetingOur next meeting will be on Sunday, May 15th at Katy's house (246 Penfield Hill Road) from 3:00 to 4:30. Sorry for another three-week interval, but Veronica, Christina, and I have a dance recital the previous weekend (and I don't think your mothers would approve of May 8th). Our Next BookI've been pushing the classics for a while, so I'm happy that Katy chose The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster for our next read! This book is about Milo, a very bored little boy. He receives an unusual package one day: a make-believe tollbooth. When he drives through it in his electric toy car, he is suddenly transported to the Lands Beyond, a fantastic world of imagination.
Well, I don't know about y'all, but I was PSYCHED to read The One Thing! I hope you all loved it. I'm sure you did. We had a few disciplinary issues, but nothing that couldn't be solved. Let's try to be a little more attentive during our next meeting. Capisce? Swell. Sorry I took so long to update you for the next meeting, but I just recently got the information. Here goes! Our Next MeetingOur next meeting will be on Saturday, April 23rd from 3:00 to 4:30 at Veronica's house. We'll be reading and discussing Escape From Mr. Lemoncello's Library by Chris Grabenstein. Hope to see you there!
What a spectacular meeting! Thanks for the mac and cheese, Lily. I don't know about y'all, but I had a grand old time frolicking outside. We discussed The Siren by Kiera Cass, which is (of course) fabulous. Our Next MeetingOur next host is Christina. We'll be discussing The One Thing by Marci Lyn Curtis (AAAAHHHH I'M SO EXCITED). Head on down to Christina's house on Saturday, April 2nd, from 3:00 to 4:30.
